English abstract
The book reviewed here is an attempt to study the development of public libraries in Kerala. It discusses education, literacy and the library scene in the State and provides an in-depth analysis of the people’s movement in Kerala to establish and maintain public libraries. The books give a glimpse of the political, social and economic impact of the libraries established by the people. The review opines that the author has taken pains to bring out a comprehensive study of the subject. Critically evaluates the systems developed and the legislations framed and puts forward many recommendations. The book contains a list of references and detailed bibliography on the subject. The book is a veritable treat for any one interested in public library movement of India.
