English abstract

The aim of this paper is to study the illustrations in old books, to appreciate and assess their value. Establishing the history of techniques that have been printed illustrations, the functions are systematized and proposed an analytical method to analyze and represent the discourse of the illustrations in old books.

Spanish abstract

Se estudian las ilustraciones de los libros antiguos, consideradas como indicadores que permiten apreciar y evaluar su valor. Para ello, se establece someramente la historia de las principales técnicas que han producido ilustraciones impresas; se sistematizan las funciones que desempeñan las ilustraciones dentro de los textos anitguos y se desarrolla un método para analizar y representar el discurso de las ilustraciones de los libros antiguos.
