English abstract

Assuming that public information is now a working tool for libraries (and their users), this paper tries to describe its distinctive characteristics in the Italian reality. After recalling the freedom of information legal tools and having given a picture of the supply of public information network, the paper focuses on the policies developed in our country, the contradictory results arising from the phenomena that characterize the Government information on the net and the possible role of different types of libraries.

Italian abstract

Partendo dal presupposto che l'informazione pubblica è ormai uno strumento di lavoro delle biblioteche (e dei loro utenti), la relazione cerca di descriverne i caratteri distintivi nella realtà italiana. Dopo aver ricordato gli strumenti giuridici per l'accesso e dopo aver dato un'immagine dell'offerta di informazione pubblica in rete, la relazione si sofferma sulle politiche sviluppate nel nostro paese, sui risultati contraddittori derivanti anche dai fenomeni di fondo che caratterizzano la rete e sul possibile ruolo delle diverse tipologie di biblioteca.
