English abstract
Introduction. The aim of this study was to identify key elements related to the creation of a health libraries network, as well as to describe network models and determine the factors involved, including: types of participating libraries, their mission and common goals, services and resources, implementation systems and technical support, financing and organizational and legal structures. It is expected that a unified description framework to establish different types of existing network as a conceptual and methodological support when planning the creation of a library network. Materials and method. A descriptive framework of 16 items is provided within a holistic paradigm, which faces the largest number of common elements to library networks and constitutes an open system and a shared vision towards conceptual managing that allows its effective approach. Results. The comparative study enabled to make visible the different situations and development of health library networks and existing institutional policies related to the concept of library network. A full description of library networks makes easer to interpret and establish indicators that visualize the strengths and weaknesses of a library network, providing a tool to compare contents of networks between institutions. Conclusion. Library networks are necessary for effective and comprehensive access to information in complex environments as it facilitates negotiations, unifies criteria and sets out an agreement scheme. According to the interpretation given to the principles of cooperation, access and networking, different organizational structures, level of availability and accessibility of resources and services, and collection development policies are provided.
