English abstract

The result of the initiatives of NLM, is based on the creation of a heritage of mankind and for mankind, that through the interaction with information and knowledge, nations can represent their own lessons learned and good practices on issues relating to public health. Its mission is to share this information with the world and also receive rewards, recognition especially in the case of institutions where the level of expertise in a subject, makes reference sources and major producers scientists. It is important to analyze and disseminate strategic tools that has used this strong institution with the support of more than 40 years behind them and publicly display the progress that has been achieved not so much through these initiatives, but all which has resulted through his leadership and the institutions in Latin America have adopted endorsed these innovative forms of access to information. In this research, and document and describe how it interacts BIREME over 500 institutions across 23 countries, the process will be highlighted how some countries have successfully legislate for both the Virtual Health Library and SciELO can be considered as equity and provide more political support, budget item and a high level of human commitment to ensure its sustainability.

El resultado de las iniciativas de BIREME, se fundamentan en la creación de un patrimonio de la humanidad y para la humanidad, para que a través de la interacción con la información y el conocimiento, las naciones puedan representar sus propias lecciones aprendidas y buenas prácticas con respecto a temas que se relacionan con la salud pública. Su misión es compartir ésta información con el mundo y también recibir retribuciones, sobre todo de reconocimiento en el caso de aquellas instituciones donde el nivel de especialidad en un tema, las convierte en fuentes de referencia y principales productores científicos. Es importante analizar y dar a conocer las herramientas estratégicas de las que se ha valido esta fuerte institución con el aval de más de 40 años que los respaldan y mostrar públicamente los avances que se han logrado, no tanto a través de estas iniciativas, sino todo lo que ha resultado a través de su liderazgo, y como las instituciones en América Latina han adoptado hecho suyas estas formas innovadoras de acceso a la información. En esta investigación, además de documentar y describir, él cómo interactúa BIREME con más de 500 instituciones a través de 23 países, se resaltará el proceso en el cómo en algunos países se ha logrado legislar para que tanto la Biblioteca Virtual en Salud y SciELO puedan ser consideradas como patrimonio y se brinde un mayor apoyo político, partida presupuestal y un alto nivel de compromiso humano para garantizar su sustentabilidad.
