English abstract

The main objective of this study is build a reading way about the historical memory of the documental preservation at the National Archive of Brazil, through the annual regulations written by the institution’s directors between 1843 and 1985 and the reports, laws, decrees that belongs to Arquivo Nacional funds. This research was based in two analyses focus: building the theoretical-conceptual landmark of the documental preservation and the choice of records. In the theoretical fundamentation, we discussed the concepts about social memory, records and heritage; in search of verify the applicability of the concept about selectivity of the social memory in the practice of the documental preservation. Portuguese abstract

O presente estudo teve por objetivo construir um percurso de leitura sobre a trajetória da memória histórica da preservação documental no Arquivo Nacional do Brasil, a partir dos relatórios anuais, escritos pelos diretores da instituição, no período de 1843 a 1985, e dos regulamentos, leis, portarias e decretos que compõem o fundo Arquivo Nacional. Esta pesquisa baseou-se em dois focos de análise: construção do campo teórico-conceitual da preservação documental e a escolha das fontes documentais. Na fundamentação teórica, foram discutidos os conceitos de memória social, documento e patrimônio, buscando verificar a aplicabilidade do conceito de seletividade da memória social à prática da preservação documental.
