This chapter looks at the research cycle and at the opportunities it provides to open up the scientific communication processes that take place during the course of such a cycle. Specifically, it highlights some of the ways in which online platforms like blogs and wikis can be used to enhance scientific research and to harness the potential of open collaboration, both between specialists and across a wider community
