English abstract

15 Years of information professionals at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland - thoughts about the education of a so-called key profession of the information society. In 1997, the four-year diploma programme Information Professions was founded as Austria's first and still only LIS undergraduate programme. From this, a Bachelor's in Information, Media & Communication as well as a Master's in Applied Knowledge Management evolved step by step. However, even after 15 years, some critical questions still await their final answer: What is the most suitable theoretical framework for the education of information experts? Which aspects should the practical part of the training focus on? What is the typical occupational field per se – is there one at all?

German abstract

1997 wird mit dem vierjährigen Fachhochschul-Diplomstudiengang Informationsberufe Österreichs erste und bis heute einzige BID-Ausbildung in Form eines Regelstudiums an einer Hochschule gegründet. In mehreren Schritten entwickeln sich daraus (a) der Bachelor-Studiengang Information, Medien & Kommunikation und (b) der Master-Studiengang Angewandtes Wissensmanagement. Aber auch nach 15 Jahren lassen sich wichtige Fragen nicht endgültig beantworten: Was ist die geeignete theoretische Basis für die Ausbildung von Informations-Expertinnen und Experten? Wo sollen die praktischen Schwerpunkte liegen? Was gehört zum typischen Berufsfeld – wenn so etwas überhaupt existiert?
