English abstract

Development Plan for Cyprus Library 2010-2014. From reality to ideal, through feasibility. The purposes of this Development Plan are: • to provide a framework for mutual commitment between the State and the Cyprus Library for upgrading the role of the Cyprus Library immediately, • to be used as a guide line for ensuring the necessary conditions for the beginning of specific actions and operations with immediate, visible and measurable results, • to be used as a basic document upon which the Cyprus Library will be developed into a modern organization and equivalent body to other European National Libraries. The proposal for the Development Plan, not only interests the Cyprus Library and the competent organs of the executive power (Government, Ministry of Education and Culture) and legislative power (House of Representatives), but also concerns the bodies whose involvement is necessary for the successful outcome, the institutions and individuals ie Academic and Research Institutions, Municipalities, Cyprus Association of Librarians - Information Scientists (CALIS).

Σκοπός του παρόντος Σχεδίου Ανάπτυξης είναι: • να αποτελέσει το πλαίσιο αμοιβαίας δέσμευσης μεταξύ Πολιτείας και Κυπριακής Βιβλιοθήκης για άμεση αναβάθμιση του ρόλου της Κυπριακής Βιβλιοθήκης • να εξελιχθεί σε οδηγό για την εξασφάλιση των απαραίτητων προϋποθέσεων για την έναρξη συγκεκριμένων δράσεων και λειτουργιών με άμεσα, ορατά και μετρήσιμα αποτελέσματα • να αξιοποιηθεί ως κείμενο βάσης για την εξέλιξη της Κυπριακής Βιβλιοθήκης σε σύγχρονο οργανισμό, αντάξιο της Κύπρου και ισάξιο των ομολόγων Ευρωπαϊκών Εθνικών Βιβλιοθηκών Η πρόταση ωστόσο, δεν αφορά μόνον την Κυπριακή Βιβλιοθήκη και τα αρμόδια όργανα της εκτελεστικής (Κυβέρνηση, Υπουργείο Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού) και νομοθετικής (Βουλή των Αντιπροσώπων) εξουσίας, αλλά και τους εμπλεκόμενους και απαραίτητους για την επιτυχή έκβαση του εγχειρήματος παράγοντες, φορείς και άτομα, ήτοι Ακαδημαϊκά και Ερευνητικά Ιδρύματα, Τοπική Αυτοδιοίκηση, Κυπριακή Ένωση Βιβλιοθηκονόμων – Επιστημόνων Πληροφόρησης (ΚΕΒΕΠ).
