English abstract

The discussion on the adoption and implementation of the new cataloging standard, RDA (Resource Description and Access) is a matter present among communities from different parts of the world, interested in research, education and professional practice of cataloging, metadata and information organization. Within this context, communities from Mexico and Latin America involved in the different aspects of this LIS area met for sixth consecutive time in the event that has become the ideal forum for academic discussion and exchange of experiences related to theory and practice of these matters. This publication includes papers presented in this academic event, which served as starting point for discussion and reflection on the challenges that currently we are facing on information organization, cataloging and metadata, as well as the alternatives used by diverse cataloging communities in Mexico and Latin America.

Spanish abstract

La discusión sobre la adopción y aplicación del nuevo estándar de catalogación, RDA (Resource Description and Access), es un asunto que se encuentra presente entre las comunidades de distintas partes del mundo, interesadas en la investigación, educación y práctica profesional de la catalogación y la organización de la información. Dentro de este contexto, las comunidades de México y América Latina involucradas en las diferentes facetas de esta área de la bibliotecología se reunieron por sexta ocasión consecutiva en el evento que se ha convertido en el foro por excelencia para la discusión académica e intercambio de experiencias sobre la teoría y práctica de la organización de la información, la catalogación y los metadatos. La presente publicación incluye las conferencias y ponencias presentadas en este evento académico, las cuales sirvieron como punto de referencia para la discusión y reflexión sobre los retos que enfrentan actualmente la organización de la información, la catalogación y los metadatos, así como las alternativas utilizadas por diversas comunidades de México y América Latina.
