English abstract

The National Library of Cuba José Martí (BNCJM Spanish abbreviation) as rector of the National System of Public Libraries (SNBP Spanish abbreviation) and the performance of its activities supports the use of information is a major venture into the new world of librarianship. One of the ways the BNCJM to improve the organization is by providing access to its collections, streamline work and reduce costs in purchasing materials with the implementation of an automated system that would integrate all data processed in the institution. As part of this strategic plan a study of the processes carried out in the library and began working on the development of a Web application that can manage the entire workflow of BNCJM was performed. The experiences gained in the project, will guide the implementation of the SNBP SIGBs and in all institutions in process automation.

Spanish abstract

La Biblioteca Nacional de Cuba José Martí (BNCJM) como rectora del Sistema Nacional de Bibliotecas Públicas (SNBP) y en el desempeño de sus actividades sustenta que el empleo de la informática es una condición importante para adentrarse en el nuevo mundo de la bibliotecología. Una de las formas que tiene la BNCJM de mejorar su organización, facilitar el acceso a sus colecciones, agilizar el trabajo y disminuir los gastosen la compra de materiales es con la implantación de un Sistema Automatizado que permita integrar todos los datos que se procesan en la Institución. Como parte de este plan estratégico se realizó un estudio de los procesos realizados en la biblioteca y se comenzó a trabajar en el desarrollo de una aplicación Web que permita gestionar todo el flujo de trabajo de la BNCJM. Las experiencias adquiridas en el proyecto, servirán de guía para la implantación de SIGBs en el SNBP y en todas aquellas instituciones en proceso de automatización.
