Blackwell Science and Blackwell publishing were the first of 4 publishers to first offer discounted collections to consortia. We started with the PSLI (Pilot Site License Initiative ) in the UK 96-98 and then were quickly adopted NESLI, KESLI and OhioLink. We feel that we have successfully aggregated our diverse list of society publications into collections that are well-valued by ~1800 libraries and institutions globally. Our society clients have also seen the benefit of the vastly increased readership and global reach of the journals. Our standard consortia model has also helped to secure the subscription revenues for our societies as well as to financially support new developments within the journal through the new income received. However, we recognise that the nature of the consortia deal is changing – more flexibility is required for libraries to achieve maximum access at a lesser cost. Blackwell’s have developed a range of pricing models to meet the requirements of libraries and consortia. Here I will explain our three most commonly accepted models and explain any new features for 2005.
