English abstract

Libraries expect from journal publishers that they allow self archiving; from authors, libraries expect that they provide their papers via personal websites, institutional, or subject repositories. But do librarians and library associations provide their own publications open access? This paper examines the situation of free access to Austrian literature on librarianship. Reasons why librarians are reluctant to provide their papers open access are identified. Those reasons are related to professional culture, knowledge, usability, time, and legal aspects. Finally, potential solutions are provided.

Zunehmend erwarten Bibliotheken von Zeitschriftenverlagen, ihren AutorInnen Selbstarchivierung zu ermöglichen, und zugleich von den WissenschaftlerInnen, ihre Publikationen auch tatsächlich auf ihren persönlichen Websites, in institutionellen oder thematischen Repositorien zur Verfügung zu stellen. Wie sieht es aber mit der Praxis im eigenen Berufsfeld aus? Im Beitrag wird untersucht, wie es in Österreich um den freien Zugang zu bibliothekarischer Fachliteratur bestellt ist. Außerdem werden mögliche Gründe für die Zurückhaltung der bibliothekarischen Fachwelt, ihre eigenen Publikationen frei ins Netz zu stellen, identifiziert. Diese lassen sich den Bereichen Klima, Wissen, Usability, Zeit und Recht zuordnen. Als Abschluss werden mögliche Lösungen für dieses Dilemma angeboten.
