English abstract

This research project aims to raise awareness of the information needs and information seeking behavior of family members of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), since in this community the use of information is vital when making the best decision regarding their well-being and quality of life. The methodology used is of a qualitative type and is framed within the ELIS (Everyday Life Information Seeking) model proposed by Reijo Savolainen in 1995; to carry out this research, semi-structured and recorded interviews were conducted with 12 parents of people with ASD who have some relationship with the organization Aletea; this organization attends all kinds of consultations on this subject and tries to train family members and raise awareness about this spectrum to achieve a more inclusive and tolerant society. Also, at a previous stage, qualified informants of the Aletea organization were interviewed, as well as an important professional in health to better contextualize the problem of the use and management of information by these families, as well as to have a more insight clear of the existing advances and the improvements that are still necessary in this community. The results were rigorously analyzed based on categories and subcategories for a better understanding and separated by block according to the main subject to which they refer. Due to the scarce research production in Uruguay and the world on this specific issue, it is expected to contribute and give rise to new research to make this community visible and the obstacles they face daily. Spanish abstract

El presente proyecto de investigación tiene como objetivo dar a conocer las necesidades de información y el comportamiento informativo de los familiares de personas con Trastorno del Espectro Autista (TEA), ya que en esta comunidad el uso de información es de carácter vital al momento de tomar la mejor decisión en lo que concierne a su bienestar y calidad de vida. La metodología utilizada es de tipo cualitativa y se encuentra enmarcada dentro del modelo ELIS (Everyday Life Information Seeking) propuesto por Reijo Savolainen en 1995; para llevar a cabo esta investigación se realizaron entrevistas semi-estructuradas y grabadas a 12 madres y padres de familia de personas con TEA que tienen alguna relación con la organización Aletea; dicha organización atiende consultas de todo tipo sobre esta temática e intentan capacitar a los familiares y concientizar a la población sobre este espectro para lograr una sociedad más inclusiva y tolerante. También en una etapa previa, se entrevistaron a informantes calificados de la organización Aletea, así como a una importante profesional en el área de la salud para contextualizar mejor la problemática del uso y manejo de información por estas familias, así como también tener una visión más clara de los avances existentes y de las mejoras que aún son necesarias en esta comunidad. Los resultados fueron analizados rigurosamente en base a categorías y subcategorías para una mejor comprensión, y separados por bloque según el tema principal al que refieren. Debido a la escaza producción investigativa en el Uruguay y el mundo sobre esta temática puntual, se espera aportar y dar pie a nuevas investigaciones que permitan visibilizar a esta comunidad y los obstáculos a los que se enfrentan a diario.
