English abstract

Science is currently marked by movements of tension and rupture, increasingly sharp and in cycles of short duration. Open Access, Open Data, Open Science, among others, are fundamental operative concepts in the relationship between libraries and science production and dissemination. This work is a literature review, that seeks to follow the historical roadmap of collaboration between libraries and the opening of science. Outlining the scenario that marks science today – from the Open Access to Open Science movement – the intention is to understand to what extent this landscape influences the role of libraries in scientific research. The objective is to provide a general picture of Open Science, focusing on the theoretical implications that this landscape entails for libraries. The main issue is to understand, on the one hand, what Open Access and Open Science mean for libraries and how they are behaving in the face of these dynamics; on the other hand, how researchers view the role of libraries in this broad and new scientific landscape. These issues will be observed in a review structure divided into three parts: Open Access origins, the emergence of Open Science, and the role of libraries in opening science. It is concluded that libraries participated from the beginning in the process of opening science and continue to strive today to play a relevant role in this social and cultural process.

La ciencia está marcada actualmente por movimientos de tensión y ruptura, cada vez más agudos y en ciclos de corta duración. El Acceso Abierto, los Datos Abiertos, la Ciencia Abierta, entre otros, son conceptos operativos fundamentales en la relación entre las bibliotecas y la producción y difusión de la ciencia. Este trabajo es una revisión de la literatura que busca seguir la hoja de ruta histórica de colaboración entre bibliotecas y la apertura de la ciencia. Esbozando el escenario que marca la ciencia hoy en día, desde el movimiento de Acceso Abierto a Ciencia Abierta, la intención es comprender hasta qué punto este panorama influye en el papel de las bibliotecas en la investigación científica. El objetivo es proporcionar una imagen general de la Ciencia Abierta, centrándose en las implicaciones teóricas que este panorama conlleva para las bibliotecas. El tema principal es comprender, por un lado, qué significan el Acceso Abierto y la Ciencia Abierta para las bibliotecas y cómo se comportan frente a estas dinámicas; por otro lado, cómo los investigadores ven el papel de las bibliotecas en este amplio y nuevo panorama científico. Estos problemas se observarán en una estructura de revisión dividida en tres partes: orígenes de Acceso Abierto, el surgimiento de la Ciencia Abierta y el papel de las bibliotecas en la apertura de la ciencia. Se concluye que las bibliotecas participaron desde el principio en el proceso de apertura de la ciencia y continúan esforzándose hoy por desempeñar un papel relevante en este proceso social y cultural.
