English abstract

This article posits a definition and theory for "Library 2.0". It suggests that with the widespread embracement of Library 2.0 technologies, pervasiveness of handheld devices and the advent of Library 2.0, libraries have to grapple and manage the changing use patterns and expectations of its varied clientele. How do librarians be trained and prepared for the new age libraries. Recent thinking describes the changing Web as "Library 2.0". It will have substantial implications for libraries and recognizes that while these implications keep very close to the history and mission of libraries, they still necessitate a new paradigm for librarianship." Libraries are increasingly adopting Library 2.0 technologies to design services that allow them to reach users in the virtual space that they could not reach before. This allows librarians to target a fragment of users in the population who will never visit the library to use their services, no matter how hard they try. A large part of this population belongs to the generations that grow up with the Internet and they are often known as the digital natives." This paper highlights on definition of Library 2.0, features and techniques of Library 2.0, characteristics of Library 2.0, benefits of Library 2.0 and useful Library 2.0 tools."
