English abstract

Digital document management has become a relevant element for organizational efficiency in engineering companies due to the increasing volume of technical, administrative, and legal information that these organizations must manage. The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of digital document management on organizational efficiency, considering aspects such as time and cost reduction, interdepartmental collaboration, digital system integration, and information flow optimization. To achieve this, a literature review was conducted. The search was carried out across ten academic databases, considering publications in English and Spanish between 2000 and 2025. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 25 studies were selected for analysis. The findings show that digital document management significantly contributes to reducing operational time and administrative costs, improves organizational collaboration, and facilitates process automation and decision-making. It is concluded that digital document management constitutes a strategic element for engineering companies due to its ability to optimize processes, improve information accessibility, and strengthen organizational efficiency.

Spanish abstract

La gestión documental digital se ha convertido en un elemento relevante para la eficiencia organizacional en empresas de ingeniería, debido al creciente volumen de información técnica, administrativa y legal que estas organizaciones deben gestionar. El objetivo de esta investigación fue analizar la influencia de la gestión documental digital en la eficiencia organizacional, considerando aspectos como la reducción de tiempos y costos, la colaboración entre departamentos, la integración de sistemas digitales y la optimización del flujo de información. Para ello, se realizó una revisión de literatura. La búsqueda se efectuó en diez bases de datos académicas, considerando publicaciones en español e inglés entre los años 2000 y 2025. Tras aplicar criterios de inclusión y exclusión, se seleccionaron veinticinco estudios para el análisis. Los resultados evidencian que la gestión documental digital contribuye significativamente a la reducción de tiempos operativos y costos administrativos, mejora la colaboración organizacional y favorece la automatización de procesos y la toma de decisiones. Se concluye que la gestión documental digital constituye un elemento estratégico para las empresas de ingeniería, debido a su capacidad para optimizar procesos, mejorar la accesibilidad a la información y fortalecer la eficiencia organizacional
