English abstract

Distance education is not a big news in the academic community of library science. It has been drawing attention of the educators all over the world ever since its emergence at the end of the 60ies but in the last twenty years, as a result of the rapid developments in ICT and the increasing presence of the Internet in the academic education and research work, distance education has become a consisting part of many university curricula in the developed countries. Distance education in Croatia is at its very beginnings. LIS professionals from Croatia have also started thinking about the application of ICT, which has become more accessible recently but still has some limitations, in the distance education of part-time LIS students as well as the continuous professional education of graduated Croatian librarians.

Croatian abstract
