English abstract

The information based organization and learning organization applied to library services development. It discuss the Peter Drucker`s concept of information based organization and the Peter M. Senge`s theory of learning organization, as well as Shelley E,]. Phipps´s comments in relation to library planning and administration. It also analyses the methologies related to systems thinking, personal mastery, mental models, building shared vision and team learning and other elevant issues which are part of Senge´s fifth discipline theory.

Portuguese abstract

No âmbito das novas teorias da administração, este artigo discute os conceitos de organização baseada na informação (information based on organization), de Peter Drucker, e de organização baseada no conhecimento (lerning organization), de Peter M. Senge. Discute também os comentários de Shelley E. Phipps, relativos ao uso de ambos conceitos no planejamento de bibliotecas e analisa as metodologias relacionadas com o enfoque sistêmico, com a especialização do indivíduo, os modelos mentais, a visão compartilhada e os grupos de aprendizagem requeridos no contexto. Conclui com a revisão das “Leis da Quinta disciplina” de Senge e levanta questões pertinentes às organizações baseadas no conhecimento.
