L'organizzazione è intelligente non solo quando il vertice aziendale, in quanto esperto del dominio, vede se stesso come utente dell'informazione prodotta dal sistema per produrne conoscenza, ma anche quando è l'utente esterno del sistema a porre scopi e obiettivi all'organizzazione. CKO significa Chief Knowledge Officer, ma è scambiabile con CLO (Learning) se si vuol dare maggior enfasi al processo piuttosto che al prodotto, e nasce dall'adeguamento di CIO (Information) ai nuovi temi del KM. La richiesta di documentalisti acculturati sull'online in genere, e su Internet in particolare, è tuttora crescente, nella proporzione in cui, anche, cresce il telelavoro nella networked organization e cresce, parallelamente, non tanto la messe di documenti da trattare, ma, soprattutto, la qualità, l'accuratezza e la precisione dell'informazione da trasmettere a utenti selezionati. Sviluppatori di siti Web, webmaster, progettisti grafici, sviluppatori di contenuti HTML come metatag e altri trucchi semantici, sviluppatori in PERL e CGI e Java sono le professioni applicative fondamentali entro le quali si svolge l'attività nel campo del KM. Nel campo della formazione sono soprattutto richiesti progettisti didattici.

An organization is intelligent when the top, as the expert in the domain, is like the user of the information produced for knowledge, and sometimes the external user makes aims and purposes for organizations. CKO means Chief Knowledge Officer but can be changed in CLO (Chief Learning Officer) if the stress is on the process rather than on the product; CKO derives from a CIO (Chief Information Officer) adjusted to KM themes. The call for on-line and internet skilled documentalists in growing in the measure in which the growth affects the quality, precision, and the accuracy of the information for specific users. Web developers, webmasters, graphic designers, HTML, PERL, CGI and Java developers are the main professions of the KM field.
