La idea de las bibliotecas de hospital para pacientes y el valor terapéutico de los libros y de la lectura, fue tratada por primera vez en los Estados Unidos, entre los bibliotecarios, durante la I Guerra Mundial, a partir de 1914. En Finlandia esto se hizo durante la II Guerra
Mundial, en coordinación con las bibliotecas de hospital dirigidas por la Biblioteca de la Ciudad de Helsinki, después de la guerra, en 1945. La primera biblioteca de hospital en Finlandia fue abierta en 1936 por voluntarios de la Cruz Roja.
[English abstract]
The idea of the hospital libraries for patients and the therapeutic value of books and the reading, were treated for the first time in the United States, between the librarians, during the I World war, as of 1914. In Finland this became during II the World war, in coordination with the libraries of hospital directed by the Library of the City of Helsinki, after the war, in 1945. The first library of hospital in Finland was opened in 1936 by volunteers of the Red Cross.
