En estos tiempos hay una gran preocupación con respecto a cuál ha sido la función del bibliotecario de ayer y hoy. En este artículo su autora pretende polemizar el rol del profesional de la información ante el advenimiento de las nuevas tecnologías y de la sociedad de la información; partiendo por analizar las funciones atribuidas a los bibliotecarios en la sociedad de la información a través de la historia. Se presentan dos casos para comprender la función del bibliotecólogo de estos tiempos, y establecer los retos del bibliotecario del futuro.

In these times there is a great preoccupation with respect to which has been the function of the librarian of yesterday and today. In this article the author tries to argue the roll of the professional of the information before the coming of the new technologies and the society of the information; starting off to analyze the functions attributed to the librarians in the society of the information through history. Two cases appear to understand the function of the librarian of these times, and to establish the challenges of the librarian of the future.
