El presente trabajo describe los criterios de selección de material bibliográfico ante los diferentes productos que ofrece hoy el mercado de información. Presenta la problemática actual ante la decisión de un mismo producto en medios impresos, magnéticos y /o electrónicos a incluir en la colección de una Biblioteca, su evaluación, requerimientos y costos asociados a su adquisición. Se presentan los las diferentes fuentes de información en medios magnéticos y electrónicos de apoyo a la selección aplicadas en el sistema de Bibliotecas de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

[English abstract]

The present work describes the criteria of selection of bibliographical material before the different products that the information market offers today. It presents problematics before the decision of a same product in average electronic forms, magnetic and /o to include in the collection of a Library, its evaluation, requirements and costs associated to his acquisition. The different sources of intelligence in magnetic and electronic means of applied support appear from the selection in the system of Libraries of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
