Abstract

Las bibliotecas digitales es un tema que no se puede debatir solamente desde el punto de vista tecnológico. Si la sociedad de la información supone un cambio de paradigma, sus consecuencias serán profundas en los aspectos sociales y económicos, y la tecnología puede ser solo un instrumento del cambio. Aplicando esta afirmación a las bibliotecas, cualquier análisis referente a la biblioteca digital debe tener en cuenta los hábitos y actitudes de los usuarios, las implicaciones organizativas y económicas para las bibliotecas y la función que han de desempeñar las mismas y sus profesionales.

“Digital Libraries” is a topic which cannot be discussed merely from a technological point of view. If Information Society implies a paradigm shift, its derivations will be important in all social and economic aspects, and technology can only be an instrument of change. In the same way, any survey about digital libraries has to consider users’ habits and attitudes, economic and management implications, and the role that libraries and librarians have to play.
