Entre 1.987 y 1.991 la UNESCO publicó tres informes acerca de las bibliotecas nacionales elaborados por Sylvestre, Line y Cornish. No hay unidad de criterios a la hora de analizar el concepto de biblioteca nacional, esencialmente debido a la diversidad que presentan estas bibliotecas, sus países, su entorno, etc.

Between the years 1,987 and 1,991, UNESCO published three reports on national libraries. This article focuses on the concept of national library as presented in the cited authors. There is no main agreement on the definition of this concept, mainly due to the heterogeneity these libraries together with their respective countries, environments, etc. show.
