La normalización de la información en la práctica catalográfica ha sido una preocupación permanente para la International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), quien la considera una herramienta indispensable para el óptimo aprovechamiento de los recursos informativos y también un valioso método para facilitar el intercambio de información en este mundo globalizado, razón por la cual hace más de cincuenta años la IFLA inició un análisis de la teoría y de la práctica de catalogación a nivel internacional.

The normalization of the information in the cataloguing it has been a permanent preoccupation for the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and for more than fifty years it initiated an analysis of the theory and the practice of cataloguing at international level.
