Este documento describe brevemente el inicio de la revista electrónica en la unam y explica con cifras su problemática en esta institución y en otras bibliotecas en relación con los aumentos en el costo de las revistas y el escaso incremento de los presupuestos destinados a la suscripción y adquisición de materiales. Se menciona también la situación que ha surgido con la aparición de la revista electrónica, la cual ha beneficiado ampliamente a los usuarios finales al romper barreras geográficas y temporales, y a la vez los costos de este tipo de publicación se han incrementado considerablemente debido a la necesidad de suscribir ambos formatos. Como respuesta a esta situación se informa acerca del proyecto que la Dirección General de Bibliotecas de la unam diseñó y aplicó para racionalizar los recursos destinados a la suscripción de revistas en ambos formatos y la selección de
los modelos de precios actuales en este proceso.

[English abstract]

This document describes briefly the beginning of the electronic journal in the unam and explains through some figures its problems in this institution and other libraries experiences in relation with subscription cost increases and the low increase of subscription budgets for acquisitions. It also mentions the situation arose with the introduction of electronic journals, which have given ample benefits to end users, bringing them better access and breaking the geographical barriers. At the same time is also mentioned that the current problem for librarians is cost related when they need to subscribe both, print and electronic version. As an answer to this problematic, the General Directorate for Libraries of unam designed and implemented a project whose main goal is to rationalize the economic resources for the electronic and print subscriptions based on the knowledge of pricing models.
