Abstract

Discusses the aim of college education, the right process to achieve the aim and its implications for efficient library and information services. Opines that education should be a process of learning than of teaching. In the process the efforts to be put in by students themselves is much important. To enable this students are to be provided with necessary facilities and provisions for mastering the subject matter, techniques, skills, and methods of work. Students have to develop a lifelong thirst for knowledge - to learn, to think, to analyze and conclude. This necessitates dynamic library and information services. The paper examines the college education scenario of Kerala and the library facilities available. Observes that college library services in Kerala are very poor and that libraries remain in such state because the teaching learning process followed is defective and it needs no information support. Concludes by stating that it is not the libraries, which need reform. When the teaching learning process is reformed the colleges will be forced to vitalize their libraries.
