Abstract
Education and research are two main functions of universities. To appropriately engage with these; they need to use the whole knowledge and information accurately and systematically. The development of ICT over last decades has offered LIS professionals new ways and tools to manipulate knowledge and information resources. Now most of academic libraries go beyond information- related services to manage knowledge. With doing knowledge management they have also extended their influence range. So that they have not only covered educational and research issues, but also led to more effective administrative ones. The present paper overviews some of the applications of knowledge management at universities and reveals the role of academic libraries in this regard.
