Abstract
The article analyses the importance of corporate image for the new role of librarians,
affecting the cultural and social position of both libraries and librarians. Image is identified as the cause of diverse problems
affecting information centres and librarians. The concepts of corporate image, corporate identity and image programmes
are defined, together with an explanation of when it is necessary to have an image programme and what benefits
such programmes offer. A bibliography of recommended readings is also included.
