La Web semántica es un proyecto a corto, medio y largo plazo del organismo de regulación más importante del mundo en relación con Internet: el World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). El proyecto de la Web semántica incluye transformaciones que ya están afectando a los ámbitos de la creación, edición y publicación de páginas y sitios Web y que seguirán teniendo una importancia creciente en el futuro. Este capítulo expondrá los conceptos e ideas más importantes relacionados con la Web semántica, siempre con el telón de fondo de los intereses de la Biblioteconomía-

The semantic Web is a short and a long term project promoted by the most important regulatory organisation of the Web: the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The semantic Web project includes transformations that are affecting the creation, edition and publication of web pages and, the most important, will have an increasing importance in the future. This chapter will expose the concepts and more important ideas related to the semantic Web, from the perspective (and interests) of the Library and Information Sciences field.
