Artykuł omawia współczesne trendy architektury bibliotecznej i organizacji przestrzeni bibliotecznej w nowych bibliotekach akademickich. Omówione zostaną następujące zagadnienia: zagrożenia stojące przed bibliotekami (Internet, źródła elektroniczne), biblioteka jako miejsce fizyczne i społeczne, biblioteka jako centrum edukacyjne, wolny dostęp do zbiorów, nie biblioteczne usługi w bibliotekach, artystyczny wizerunek bibliotek. Temat jest przedstawiony na podstawie literatury zagranicznej, wniosków z 13. Seminarium Grupy Architektonicznej LIBER – Zmieniające się Potrzeby, Zmieniające się Biblioteki (Utrecht, marzec 2006) i wizyt w niektórych europejskich bibliotekach akademickich.

[English abstract]

The paper presents the contemporary trends of library architecture and the organization of library space in new academic libraries. The following issues will be discussed: threats for academic libraries (Internet, electronic resources), library as a physical place and a social place, library as a learning center, open access in libraries, nonlibrary facilites in library buildings, artistic image of libraries. The subject is presented on the basis of foreign literature, materials and results of the 13th Seminar of The LIBER Architecture Group (Changing Needs, Changing Libraries, Utrecht, March 2006) and visits in some European academic libraries.
