Η αναγκαιότητα γραπτής πολιτικής διαχείρισης της συλλογής κάθε βιβλιοθήκης έχει τονιστεί τόσο, στη διεθνή βι-βλιοθηκονομική βιβλιογραφία, που η ύπαρξη της αποτελεί θεωρητικά υποχρέωση κάθε βιβλιοθήκης που έχει οργανωμένη συλλογή και συγκεκριμένους στόχους και αποστολή. Παρόλο που μια σειρά από οδηγούς σύνταξης γραπτών πολιτικών διαχείρισης συλλογών έχει εκδοθεί από τις Βιβλιοθηκονομίες Ενώσεις κυρίως των αγγλοσαξονικών χωρών, στην Ελλάδα τέτοιος οδηγός δεν υπάρχει, ούτε έχει υποπέσει στην αντίληψη των εισηγητών η ύπαρξη αντίστοιχου κειμένου για πολιτική διαχείρισης συλλογής σε άλλη ελληνική ακαδημαϊκή βιβλιοθήκη. Στην ανακοίνωση αυτή παρουσιάζεται ο απολογισμός της διαδικασίας σύνταξης γραπτής πολιτικής διαχείρισης σε μια ελληνική κεντρική ακαδημαϊκή βιβλιοθήκη. Περιγράφονται οι δυσκολίες που παρουσιάστηκαν και οι προσαρμογές που απαιτήθηκαν, τόσο ως προς τον ακαδημαϊκό, εκπαιδευτικό χαρακτήρα της βιβλιοθήκης, όσο και προς το ελληνόγλωσσο πλαίσιο. Τέλος αναλύονται τα οφέλη, άμεσα και έμμεσα, που προέκυψαν αλλά και αυτά που προσδοκούνται στο άμεσο μέλλον από την ύπαρξη ενός τέτοιου τεκμηρίου.

According to the international library science literature, the necessity of a written collection management policy has been emphasized at such an extent that it has become obvious. Its existen¬ce is therefore an obligation for every library with defined aims and missions and a structured collection.
In spite of the fact that a series of
guides for collection management poli¬cy statements have been published by the Library Associations of the Anglo-Saxon countries, such a guide has not been published in Greece. Furthermore, there has been no sign of the existence of such collection management policy statement in any of the Greek acade¬mic library in the last 10 years.
The aim of this announcement is to
present an account of the whole pro¬cedure of writing a collection manage¬ment policy in the context of a Greek central academic library, What is being described here is the difficulties which came up and the adjustments which were needed not only to the academic
and educational character of the library
but also to the Greek-language frame. Finally, the benefits obtained directly or indirectly as well as those expected in the near future from the existence of such a document are being mentioned in this presentation.
