Abstract

[Portuguese Abstract:] A preservação digital é uma área científica crítica para os profissionais de informação. A complexidade crescente dos objectos digitais e a rápida desactualização tecnológica provoca problemas que incluem tanto a manutenção do valor operativo dos documentos electrónicos numa organização, como o provável desaparecimento de memória social. Diversas tentativas e projectos têm sido desenvolvidos no sentido de dar resposta, apesar de parcial, a estes problemas. O IAN/TT tem seguido os esforços desenvolvidos nesta vertente, preparando alguns projectos que permitam lançar as bases de uma futura estrutura capaz de receber, gerir e acessibilizar os documentos e arquivo electrónicos produzidos pelo sector público.

[English Abstract:] Digital preservation is a scientific area considered critical by information professionals. The growing complexity of digital objects as well as the fast technological obsolescency induces issues that comprehend so much the preservation of operational electronic records within an organization as the likely vanishement of digital heritage. Several projects have been developed to provide answers to these problems. The Portuguese National Archives (IAN/TT) have been following the efforts in this field, and is now preparing a project that may eventually launch the basis of a future organizational structure capable of ingesting, managing and accessioning public sector electronic records.
