English abstract

The Register of the Jose P. Laurel Papers is designed to describe the arrangement of the entire manuscript collection housed in the Jose P. Laurel Memorial Library-Museum located at the Jose P. Laurel Memorial Foundation Building at Roxas Boulevard corner Pedro Gil, Manila, Philippines. Consisting of approximately 470,000 pieces, the papers span the years from 1918 to 1959 chronicling the life and career of former Philippine President Jose P. Laurel. The Laurel papers cover the administration of various public offices he held in the Executive Bureau, the Dept. of Interior and Justice, and the Supreme Court; his senatorial career during the American Colonial Period and after the war; the administration of the Second Republic during the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines; his long and illustrious legal career; and his diplomatic missions particularly in relation to the Philippine Economic Mission to the United States in 1954. The papers also document his equally long intellectual career devoted to writing legal treatises, and political, educational, and economic philosophies.
