Abstract

[English abstract]

The library of Hospital de Fuenlabrada subscribed UpToDate in June of 2004 (on site license, with no limit set on the number of simultaneous users). After more than one year of experience, the results of usage are presented, not only quantitatively but also qualitatively, for this main tool that provides support to the hospital’s doctors in searching clinical information. UTD saves time and improves the attention given to patients thanks to its fast access and user-friendly interface. It also helps the physicians to keep up to date and they have a high degree of confidence in it. More training is needed in order for users to take greater advantage of the features offered by UTD. A subscription to the online version is recommended for hospital libraries, since it allows doctors to consult it from their offices.

La biblioteca del Hospital de Fuenlabrada suscribió UpToDate en junio de 2004 en su modalidad on site, sin límite máximo de usuarios simultáneos. Después de más de un año de experiencia, se presentan los resultados de uso, tanto a nivel cuantitativo como cualitativo, como principal herramienta de apoyo en la búsqueda de información clínica para los especialistas del hospital: UTD ahorra tiempo a los profesionales y mejora la atención al paciente gracias a la rapidez en el acceso y a la amigabilidad de la interfaz, ayuda a los profesionales a permanecer actualizados y tiene un alto grado de confianza para el personal sanitario. Es necesario incentivar su uso formando a los usuarios para explotar más posibilidades que ofrece. Se recomienda la suscripción a su versión online a bibliotecas hospitalarias, ya que los facultativos pueden consultarlo desde su puesto de trabajo.
