ಇ-ಮಾಧ್ಯಮದ ದಾಳಿಯಿಂದ ಓದುವ ಹವ್ಯಾಸ ಬಡವಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂಬ ಕಾಳಜಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಚರ್ಚಿಸುವ ಈ ಲೇಖನ ಇ-ಮಾಧ್ಯಮದ ಲಾಭ ಹಾಗೂ ಕುಂದುಗಳನ್ನೂ ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ನಾಗರೀಕನ ಜೀವನವು ಹೊಸ ಹೊಸ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಂವಹನ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನದ ಸುತ್ತಲೇ ಹೆಣೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದು ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿಯನ್ನೇ ರೂಪಿಸಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಇಂತಹ ಅತಿರೇಕದ ಆಕರ್ಷಣೆಯು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೊಬ್ಬನ ವಿಶ್ಲೇಷಣಾತ್ಮಕ ಆಲೋಚನಾಶಕ್ತಿ, ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಹಾಗೂ ಸೃಜನಾತ್ಮಕ ಕೌಶಲ್ಯ, ಮಾನವೀಯ ಸಂಬಂಧಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಭಾವನೆಗಳ ವಿನಿಮಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಮಾರಕವಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಇಂತಹ ಮಾನವೀಯ ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ಉದ್ದೀಪನಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಪುಸ್ತಕಕ್ಲಬ್ಗಳನ್ನು ಪುನರಾರಂಭಿಸುವ ಸಲಹೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಇ-ಮಾಧ್ಯಮವನ್ನು ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಸಂಸ್ಸೃತಿಗೆ ಪೂರಕವಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಲೇಖನ ತೆರೆದಿಡುತ್ತದೆ.
[English abstract]
Discusses the apprehension of declining reading habit caused by invasion of digital media and also the advantages and drawbacks of e-media. Opines that with lives of common man completely engrossed by new media, information and communication technologies (ICT) have revolutionized the society, but is also threatening analytical thinking, traditional and creative skills, interpersonal relations and sharing of feelings. Suggests revival of book clubs with all its humane touch and feel which can enable the adoption of e-media appropriately to compliment the book culture.
