Abstract
Explains the scope of information-requirements and the difficulties with respect to use of terms and concepts like ‘need’, ‘want’ and ‘demand’. Enumerates typology of information needs and the nooed to probe into nature and type of information required by scientists, engineers, technologists and technicians. Describes the overlapping classification of nature and type of information adopted in some earlier studies. Presents as a case study the nature and type of information required by the Indian space technologists based on a survey and the results are compared with the findings of the earlier studies. Discerns out of discussions with respondents, four types of changes in nature of work and their effects on information-requirements and future information-requirements of the Indian space technologists. Concludes by suggesting some of the implications of the findings for information system for the IST
