Abstract

[Portuguese Abstract:] A necessidade da Biblioteca do Conhecimento Online (b-on) tornava-se cada vez mais óbvia:
o indispensável acesso alargado às fontes do conhecimento
científico estava fortemente dificultado. Com a b-on, é possível o acesso electrónico em texto integral às principais fontes do conhecimento em mais de 3500 publicações. O investimento na biblioteca permite passar de um quadro muito esforçado ou aleatório de pesquisa, para uma
plataforma racional e optimizada de procura e consulta, com tudo o que isto significa em ganhos de tempo e motivação
para qualquer investigador ou estudante. A experiência
de implementação deste projecto complexo, parte integrante do Plano de Acção para a Sociedade da Informação, foi muito enriquecedora. Em breve vai ser constituído um consórcio de forma a assegurar o contínuo melhoramento e enriquecimento da b-on.

[English Abstract:] The need for a Knowledge Library Online (b-on) had become more and moreobvious, while difficulties
on a wide access to the scientific knowledge sources remained. With b-on, full text electronic access to the most important sources of knowledge in more than 3.500 journals will be available. The investment on the Library will provide an optimized and rational platform of search and use, with great advantages of time and motivation forany researcher or student. This complex project, included
in the Action Plan for the Information Society, was a very
interesting implementation experience. Continuous improvement and enlargement of b-on will be guaranteed
by a consortium that soon will be settled.
