English abstract

The retrieval of evidence-based nursing (EBN) literature is very important for evidence-based practice. Nurses’s information needs require a good level of competence in searching biomedical databases and search engine, in order to achieve satisfactory results. The nursing librarians are the best experts in this field and can give a valuable support to nursing students. The aim the aim this article is to supply notions, techniques and cognitive basis tools to the search of nursing information, a new tool in the librarian’s reference activity. The last part of the article describes reference librarian competencies.

Italian abstract

La letteratura sull’evidence-based nursing (EBN) è molto importante per una pratica basata sulle evidenze. I bisogni informativi degli infermieri richiedono un buon livello di competenza nella ricerca nei database biomedici e nei motori di ricerca, per raggiungere risultati soddisfacenti. Il nursing librarian è il più esperto in questo campo e può vare un valido supporti agli studenti in infermieristica. Lo scopo di questo articolo è di fornire nozioni, tecniche e strumenti conoscitivi di base per la ricerca delle informazioni infermieristiche, cui il bibliotecario che si occupa di reference si trova sempre più spesso a far riferimento. L’ultima parte dell’articolo descrive le competenze che il bibliotecario addetto al reference dovrebbe avere.
