Abstract
[Portuguese Abstract]: A Universidade do Minho (UM) tem tomado diversas iniciativas relevantes na promoção do acesso livre à literatura científica. No presente artigo descrevem-se algumas dessas iniciativas, como a criação e desenvolvimento do RepositóriUM, o repositório institucional da UM, e a definição de uma política de auto-arquivo da sua
produção científica. Finalmente, apresentam-se os resultados já alcançados e as conclusões extraídas da experiência acumulada.
[English Abstract]: Minho University (UM) has taken diverse several important initiatives in the promotion of open access to scientific literature. In the present paper some
of those initiatives, as the creation and development of RepositóriUM, the institutional repository of UM, and the definition of an institutional policy of self-archiving the university research output, are described. Finally, the results already reached and the conclusions of the accumulated experience are presented.
