U tekstu se prati problem inflacije književnih nagrada u Srbiji, sa posebnim osvrtom na status Nagrade za najčitaniju knjigu Narodne biblioteke Srbije koja je tokom 2005. godine transformisana u Nagradu za najbolju knjigu u mreži javnih biblioteka Republike Srbije. U kontekstu srpske kulture devedesetih godina, ova nagrada se pozicionira između NIN-ove nagrade kritike za roman godine kao i nagrade Večernjih novosti. U tekstu se razmatra izostanak promena u kulturi nakon 2000. godine, kao i transformacija nagrade koju je NBS izvršila u nekoliko faza, vodeći računa o svojim obavezama prikupljanja statističkih podataka o čitanosti knjiga u bibliotekama Republike Srbije, ali i o estetskom kvalitetu koji književna nagrada podrazumeva. U konačnom Pravilniku za dodelu Nagrade, ova dva segmenta su razdvojena.

In this text a problem of literary awards inflation in Serbia is considered with a special observation of status of The Most Read Book Award (given by the National Library of Serbia) which was transformed into The Best Book Award in 2005. It is an award for the best book in the network of public libraries in the Republic of Serbia. In the context of Serbian culture in 1990ies this Award was placed between the NIN Literary Award and the "Mesa Selimovic" Award (given by daily newspapers "Vecernje novosti"). The text discusses reasons for omission of changes in the field of culture after 2000, and describes process of transformation of NLS Award which had several phases. Both obligation of NLS to collect statistical data on book reading in public libraries and aesthetic quality which is necessary for a literary prize were taken into account. In the final version of the Plan of The Best Book Award these two segments are separated.
