Abstract

Both international cataloging rules and bibliographic records codification have attained important goals for the systematic access to information. Nevertheless, after a long period of stability, new documents are arising in which the objectives of the catalog and cataloging principles are reviewed. The integration of the bibliographic universe and the suitability to actual information needs is sought through new theoretical basis. At the same time, more simple and functional cataloging systems are being developed. Only time will say which type of cataloging will prevail.

Las reglas de catalogación internacionales y la codificación de los registros bibliográficos han alcanzado logros importantes para el acceso sistemático a la información. Sin embargo, después de un largo período de estabilidad, se están elaborando nuevos documentos en los que se examinan los objetivos del catálogo y los principios de catalogación. Mediante nuevas bases teóricas se busca integrar el contenido del universo bibliográfico y atemperar la organización de la información a las necesidades actuales de información. Paralelamente, se elaboran sistemas de catalogación más sencillos y funcionales. Solamente el tiempo dirá qué tipo de catalogación prevalecerá.
