abstract: Patents, generated around the legal protection process of inventions, constitute a basic source of information for the improvement of the research and development processes, as well as for the study of the current state of such processes in a branch of knowledge or in any socioeconomic region. The Cuban Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) is the leading institution in this field in Cuba. Its main information services, resources, investigations, etc., are dealt with.
