N2  - This paper deals with the discussion and implementation of the concept of fractal libraries in the German speaking part of Switzerland. The question will be answered, why this concept in the beginning was discussed strongly and then suddenly nearly disappeared and why just parts of the concept were implemented in Switzerland.
In a first part the concept of the fractal library is being discussed theoretically with the example of an ideal realisation.
The implementation in various libraries is being compared with the original concept and amongst each other. Finally possible future developments are being pointed out.
