abstract: The present paper is based on the experience gained in working major technical libraries of India. It discusses the concept of capacity building, impact of competency, roadmap for capacity building and various challenges facing the technical libraries. It also highlights the role of capacity building in the area of customer care and also suggests some selected customer care measures. The paper further gives the major suggestions including the importance of web-based services to ensure excellence in technical institutions.
