What is known as "instruction in library use" has been interpreted in a variety of ways, from the basic library tour to structured, required credit courses included in the curriculum of the student's field of study. These ways share a common goal: to enable the student to fulfill his role as a student and to allow him to discover and use a number of reference resources that will help him produce research projects of a higher quality. This vision is outdated. The high performance use of information is now considered as a survival skill for individuals and organisations. The learning opportunities underlying the efficient use of information in a professional setting requires a redefinition of the basic concepts and the objectives of instruction in library use. date: 2000 date_type: published publication: Documentation et bibliothèques volume: 46 number: 2 publisher: ASTED pagerange: 79-82 refereed: TRUE referencetext: Beck, Nuala, La nouvelle économie, Montréal, Transcontinentales, 1994. 232 p.
