http://eprints.rclis.org/5488/ Χρηστικότητα δικτυακών τόπων ακαδημαϊκών βιβλιοθηκών The wide acceptance of Internet technologies, the activation of electronic publishing mechanisms and the users’ needs differentiation are some of the main motivations for the libraries to offer, partially or totally, their services on the Internet. Academic libraries serve a manifold public with leveled and diverse needs, while their material is in various and different formats. Libraries’ websites work also as communication channels between library users (local and remote) and information producers/providers. However, the libraries usually create unusable websites that cannot be used in an effective, efficient and satisfactory way. This is due to an erroneous methodological approach for the design of these websites. The detection and analysis of such mistakes is of fundamental importance for the functionality and acceptance of libraries’ websites. In this paper we present the main usability problems, that are observed in the libraries’ environment through case studies, we propose solutions, present the benefits from the monitoring and examination the usability of the library websites and finally we give a case study of usability testing.
