The systems approach is not an attempt to understand everything about a system, rather it tries to include all factors relevant to the topic or problem under consideration. The systems approach by itself is not a methodology, but involves the use of systems methodologies. Therefore. there have been many attemps to adapt systems thinking into practical methodologies since 1970s. This paper describes the terms 'system' and ‘systems approach' and presents a short historical account of systems methodologies. In addition, the importance of systems approach aiid systems approch based systcms methodologies within organisational (including libraries) problem solving is stresed. date: 1993 date_type: published publication: Türk Kütüphaneciliği volume: 7 number: 1 publisher: Türk Kütüphaneciler Derneği pagerange: 33-40 refereed: TRUE referencetext: Ackoff, R.
