<dc:description>Between 2009 and 2010, the Working Group "Front Office" of the Milano Bicocca - University Library made an Action Research’s project on library services.
After a literature review and benchmarking activity among academic libraries, two surveys were carried out aimed at users: a quantitative (almost 800 questionnaires completed by students and teachers), connected to the Good Practices Project, which involved 19 Italians universities, to
measure the use and satisfaction level on library services, a qualitative survey (about 50 interviews to students, teachers and potential users) to find out the reasons for the low use of some services, to understand the reasons for satisfaction or dissatisfaction with library services and to gather suggestions for improvement, also on the library promotion.
The shared reflection on surveys results was useful to plan and to realize many improvement actions related to different areas: library’s marketing, information literacy, website, reference, loan,
and interlibrary loan.</dc:description>

<dc:description>The "Kölner UniversitätsGesamtkatalog (KUG)" - the union catalogue of the University of Cologne - consists of numerous separate catalogues, among them 143 from the libraries of the universities institutes. As cataloguing practices differ between
these libraries, eg. regarding subjects headings, we had to develop alternative strategies to offer our users a maximum of homogeneity in a very heterogeneous environment.

This process of homogenization comprises not only improvements in the searchability of titles but also in the enrichment with other suitable contents - irrespective of whether they come from our own system or external services. Furthermore we provide interfaces to facilitate the integration of our bibliographic and enriched data in external
services. In this way classic catalogue enrichment and mashups converge and lead - in the interest of our users - to new links
between titles, additional contents and forward-looking new services.</dc:description>

<dc:description>Microcredit can be an effective tool for tackling the global poverty problem. Making microcredit work better for the poor necessitates a framework that integrates the principles of good governance in the design and implementation of a microcredit program. The integration of good governance principles in microfinance is argued to have positive consequences in improving financial viability and increasing social outreach of microcredit programs as well as in widening the livelihood and economic options of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries within Third World economic and poverty conditions. Governance principles can be applied as implementation strategies of Official Development Assistance (ODA)-assisted microfinance program as a tool for poverty reduction and development. In view of the Philippine government’s limitations, economic and fiscal challenges, the financial and technical support programs of the international donor community provide a big boost to the effectiveness and impact of microfinance in reducing the incidents of poverty in Third World countries such as the Philippines. As a tool for poverty reduction, microcredit is applicable only to the enterprising poor based on Joe Remenyi’s (1999) Poverty Pyramid which is a useful tool for the application of BRAC’s graduated strategy for helping the poor when they are grouped into: (1) micro-enterprise operators or the less poor, (2) enterprising or moderately poor, (3) laboring or very poor, and (4) poorest of the poor and most vulnerable or the ultra-poor. The use of microcredit to assist poverty groups is recommended to be based on existing livelihood activities and micro-entrepreneurial skills and capabilities. Furthermore, the program design of the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) is found to be appropriate for the agrarian reform beneficiaries in Zamboanga Peninsula (Region IX), Philippines.</dc:description>

<dc:description>Since the first decade of the 21st Century, an explosion has occurred in the publication of university rankings. Due to the quantity and variety of initiatives, some authors and institutions reflect on the future development of university league tables which, among other factors, will focus on the use of clusters and the interactivity and customization possibilities that webs allow. This paper describes the main characteristics of these new trends, exemplified by initiatives such as the Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung (CHE), Complete university guide (CUG), and College Navigator of Taiwan. Their advantages and disadvantages are discussed.</dc:description>

<dc:description>This paper studies the impact of intercultural library projects in the Valencia Region from 2004 to 2010. We analyze investments, collections and services compared with other public libraries in Valencia, other Spanish experiences (Andalucía) and some international standards. Except in Gandia and to a lesser extent in Aldaia, Carcaixent,
Vall d'Uxó and Villena, the results are poor. Nevertheless, these libraries cncentrate most of the few funds and useful services to the immigrant population in the Valencian Public Reading Network</dc:description>
